Accessibility Statement
Smoky Mountain Sand & Gravel is committed to making smokymountainsg.com usable for everyone, including people who rely on assistive technology. This statement describes what we do, what we haven't finished yet, and how to tell us if something on the site gets in your way.
Our commitment
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. Accessibility is part of how we build the site, not an add-on. We review our pages as we ship them and fix issues as we find them.
Measures we take
- Semantic HTML with a clear heading structure on every page.
- Full keyboard navigation; no feature requires a mouse.
- Visible focus indicators on links, buttons, and form fields.
- Descriptive alt text on images that carry meaning.
- Descriptive link text (we avoid “click here”).
- Labeled form fields with clear, plain-language error messaging.
- Color contrast checked against WCAG AA ratios for text and interactive elements.
- Responsive layouts that reflow cleanly at up to 200% browser zoom.
- Accessible UI components built on Radix UI primitives (via shadcn/ui), which handle focus management and ARIA roles for menus, dialogs, and accordions.
Known limitations
We want to be straightforward about where we are:
- We have not yet completed a formal third-party accessibility audit. Our checks to date have been internal.
- We have not yet completed an end-to-end screen reader pass or wired automated accessibility testing (for example, axe-core) into our release process. Both are on our roadmap.
- Some third-party embeds we may use in the future (for example, Google Maps or an Instagram preview) may not fully meet Level AA, since we don't control their markup. Where we rely on an embed for information, we try to provide the same information in an accessible form on the page.
- Color contrast across the site should meet AA, but has not been independently audited.
We're continuously improving. If you spot something we missed, the fastest way to get it fixed is to tell us.
Compatibility
The site is designed to work with recent versions of common browsers and assistive technology:
- Browsers: the latest two versions of Chrome, Safari, Edge, and Firefox, on desktop and mobile.
- Screen readers: VoiceOver (macOS and iOS), NVDA (Windows), and JAWS (Windows).
If you're using an older browser or a less common assistive tool and something doesn't work, please let us know so we can help.
Tell us about a barrier
If you experience any accessibility barrier on this site — a page you can't read, a form you can't submit, a control that doesn't respond to your keyboard or screen reader — please tell us. We'll work to fix it.
When you contact us, it helps if you can share:
- The page URL where you hit the problem.
- A short description of what happened.
- The browser, operating system, and any assistive technology you were using (if you know).
- Email: hello@smokymountainsg.com
- Phone: (865) 999-0857
We aim to respond within two business days.
Formal complaints
Our preference is to hear from you directly so we can fix the issue quickly. If you've contacted us and the concern isn't resolved, you also have the right to file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Justice under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA):
File an ADA complaint at ada.gov
